An excitable Marquis. A girl with a past. And a vampire with an unslakable thirst.

Champion equestrienne Jo Martin has set off for France and her dream job at a breathtaking château. She dismisses the rumors about vampires as nothing more than tabloid fodder and just wants to spend all her time in the saddle. But David la Motte, the Marquis' sexy younger brother, has other ideas—and he's not shy about spelling them out.

The longer she stays, the more entangled Jo becomes with the la Motte brothers. David is irresistible to women but a classic playboy; his brother Henri is a shy scientist who lights up when Jo enters a room. But she didn't come to France looking for romance, and struggles to sort out passion from real connection. Before long, events begin unfolding faster and faster, threatening everything she has always believed about the world, and about herself.

Unbitten Fifth World Book 1 eBook Valerie du Sange

I tried, but could only get about half way through this one. There were too many separate stories happening. I lost track of what was going on with one group of characters by time the book came back around to them. It made it too bland.  I need romance in books, and this one just didn't have enough. I think if the book focused on more of a love triangle between David, Henri, and Jo, it would have had more potential.

Unbitten Fifth World Book 1 eBook Valerie du Sange Reviews

The best ebook I've read yet! Smart, sizzling, delicious (especially the pastries) and fun read. Can't wait for the sequel!
I am somewhat new to this genre, though an erstwhile citizen of the night and old French hand. Mlle. du Sange nails the equestrian and chateau worlds while actually managing to write well. (She clearly knows a thing or two about lovemaking, as well; the sex sizzled).

If there is a sequel on its way, sign me up.
I'm a fan of the erotic vampire genre. It's fun to read different takes on the vampire world, and "Unbitten" did not disappoint.

We meet an American girl, Jo, as she arrives in a small French village to begin work as trainer and rider of a prized show horse for the owners of a grand French chateau.

The owners of Chateau Gagnon are brothers, Henri and David de la Motte, both of them strikingly handsome vampires. The older brother, Henri, is the responsible one, with his head in the clouds dreaming up useful products to develop in his lab to market and sell to his vampire brethren around the world.

The younger brother, David, is the charming reckless one, who treats the guests on holiday at the Chateau as a convenient snack bar for his voracious appetite (nourishment and sexual needs).

Jo gets caught up with the intoxicating sexy younger brother---he's the one you know you shouldn't fall for, but you always do. All that hot sex keeps you from thinking clearly!

Their perfect world gets messy when David, in a fit of passion, loses control with one of the Chateau's guests. The brothers' livelihood is further threatened when a businessman from overseas is determined to steal Henri's product line and crush him.

The author weaves a cast of very interesting characters in and out of the main story arc. The chapters take turns, flipping to focus on different characters and sub-plots, as the main story moves along. It was very engaging, and I found myself setting aside blocks of time so I could get back to the book to find out what was going to happen next. The sex is definitely steamy, although not overly explicit.

I was disappointed we didn't learn more about Angelique, the mysterious woman who deftly manages the estate, and is clearly devoted to the de la Motte brothers. There's a story to be had there! Maybe in subsequent books?

Bottom line? "Unbitten" was a fun, sexy escape!
It was a good story, and it had some interesting characters. I feel as though it didn't get all that exciting until the near end and even though that's usually the best part, I was looking for a little more of something in between.
I have to admit, I thought vampire fictions was just for teenagers. But when my friends told me I simply had to read "Unbitten", I decided to try it. I figured the price was right, I might as well. Oh, goodness. I'm so glad I did. this is not just two-dimensional characters biting each other. These are characters with histories and complex spirits. There is a mythology to the vampire world in Unbitten that also took me by surprise, it was captivating, and really drew me in. The sex scenes weren't gratuitous but seemlessly woven into the narrative, creating a rich, sexy, sultry, delicious, and mysterious world. I can't wait to read the sequel. In the meantime, I'm going to go have an almond pastry.
I was totally captivated until the very end. can't wait for the next book. Is it going to be stand alone or a sequel? There are questions to be resolved. What happens to David, the moody alcoholic vampire? What about Roxanne? Last we heard, she took off after the crazed old women. Did callie come completely back to life? Did Maloney live after getting staked in the chest? Or did the dark vampire, Dominic save him? All in all, this was a great read. I recommend it.
way too long....and way too many intrigues....if I were editing this book I'd cut out at least a quarter of it and maybe even David and his antics all together.....too bad the writing wasn't bad, but to add stuff to a book so its longer...does not do it justice....and takes away from the total books goodness....a bit funny in parts but really way too long....maybe if the writer wanted all the intrigues to be in the story she wanted told. she could have written two books....
